Tips to Conquering Magic Kingdom

My husband took me to Magic Kingdom for my birthday and it was both of our first trips to any of the Disney parks! We received a lot of advice from people before our trip and I think we really killed the game when it comes to getting the most out of the day!

I thought I would put together a post compiled of all the advice we got from friends as well as what we figured out on our own.

Throughout the day I kept track of what time we got to rides and how long we waited. I am going to share that below and then go through what we did to get through as much as we did.

9:00 a.m. Park open

9:03 a.m. Arrive at Seven Dwarves – on ride by 9:17 a.m. By the time we got off the wait was 65 minutes.

9:23 a.m. Arrive at Peter Pan – on ride by 10:17 a.m.

10:19 a.m. Arrive at Small World – on ride by 10:37 a.m.

10:58 a.m. Arrive at Jungle Cruise – on ride by 11:04 a.m. (with a fast pass) normal wait time was 65 minutes.

11:25 a.m. Arrive at Cosmic Rays for a lunch break. Ordered via the app and had food by 11:30 p.m.

11:50 a.m. Arrive at Buzz Lightyear – on ride by 12:05 p.m. (with fast pass)

12:12 p.m. Arrive at Laugh Floor – on ride by 12:23 p.m. (with fast pass)

12:50 p.m. Arrive at Space Mountain – on ride by 1:03 p.m. (with fast pass)

Ice cream break and shopping

1:45 p.m. Arrive at Under the Sea – on ride by 1:50 p.m. (with fast pass)

2:08 p.m. Arrive at Pirates of the Caribbean – on ride by 3:08 p.m.

Purchased snacks

3:28 p.m. Arrive at Haunted Mansion – on ride by 4:05 p.m.

4:55 p.m. Arrive at Splash Mountain – on ride by 5:10 p.m. (with fast pass)

Break for shopping. During this we bought a phone charger – which I will talk about later.

5:48 p.m. Arrive at Winnie the Pooh – on ride by 5:56 p.m. (with fast pass)

6:03 p.m. Arrive at Mickey’s Philharmonic – on ride by 6:09 p.m. (with fast pass)

6:48 p.m. Arrive at Space Mountain – on ride by 6:57 p.m. (with fast pass)

Break to relax and eat dinner. We ate this cute little shop by the castle that had tables with umbrellas. We sat there and ate and rested until the firework show started

9:15 p.m. Lights show

9:35 p.m. Arrive at Thunder Road Mountain – on ride by 10:14 p.m.

Left the park!

My favorite ride was by far Space Mountain. I was so happy we got fast passes for it twice! Luke’s favorite was Space Mountain

The best thing we did all day was our first three fast passes that we got on the app, we made sure were somewhat toward the beginning of the day and for the best rides that were available when we purchased our tickets. As soon as our three fast passes were up, we would jump on the app and try to get another fast pass for a ride that was coming up the soonest. ** We didn’t try to get fast passes that were later in the day because then we would have had to go and wait at all the other rides. That is how we were able to use a total of 9 fast passes all day.

A tip we got from someone before we went was to keep refreshing the page where you select your fast passes. It literally changes by the second. So, we got lucky sometimes by hurrying and refreshing.

One thing that sucked, was literally the day we went to Disney, they changed how fast passes worked a little bit. (which we didn’t realize since we had never been), but we would talk to people throughout the day who were avid Disney visitors who said the fast pass system was messed up and we eventually found out that they changed it.

When we got lucky and found a fast pass for a good ride, we had to click on it FAST and then we had to click CONFIRM, because if we weren’t fast enough, it would pop up and say, “we’re sorry, this is no longer available” Apparently, this isn’t how it always was. If you got to click on a time, then you got the pass, you never had to click CONFIRM before. Well, now there is an extra step and you have to go quick or there is a good chance that fast pass will be gone.

Another suggestion we got from friends was for the beginning of the day. We were able to get on Seven Dwarves within 20 minutes of the park opening because of this. They told us when we arrive to head straight to the right side of the castle and stand by the gate and wait for it to open. Yes, you don’t get a great view of the show at the beginning of the day – but it was worth it. The line for that ride was over an hour long by the time we got off.

Always order your food on the app. It is so much faster and I am really not sure why people don’t already do that. Haha! When you start to head to where you want to eat, order your food and it will probably be ready for you when you get there. No waiting in lines!

Luke and I were taking a ton of pictures and fighting for fast passes all day so our phones started to die quickly. We asked an employee if there were any stores with portable chargers available and they told us about these recharge stations. Basically you find one in the park, it is $30 and you purchase this battery stick that will charge your phone while you are walking around the park. Once the battery power runs out of the stick – you can go back to the charging station and put the dead battery in and it will give you a new one for free. So, for $30, you can continue to keep getting battery sticks that will charge your phone. It comes with the cord and everything you need no matter what type of phone. We kept ours and will be able to take it anytime we go, so it basically just a one time fee.

Lastly, if there is a ride you really want to ride, but weren’t able to get a fast pass and just don’t want to wait for a couple hours – wait until right after the light show and book it to that ride. We weren’t able to get a fast pass for Thunder Road, despite trying all day. So, we walked really fast after the light show and jumped in line and didn’t have that bad of a wait. Although, I did get run over by a wheelchair and my achilles started gushing blood – thankfully someone behind us in line had a bandaid, so last tip… pack bandaids!

We visited Epcot the next day – so in a couple weeks I will share a post about that!

I would love to hear what your advice is when heading to Magic Kingdom. Tell me in the comments!
